The challenge

Lev You Lots was an online guidebook to Levenshulme, the part of Manchester I live in. It helped people find accessible, inclusive places to go and things to do, and promoted independent businesses, events and artists.

I started it as a side project to put my content design experience to work and develop my web design and development skills. It quickly grew into a small, early business model.

My contribution

I did everything, from strategy to code.

  • Research: comparator analysis of the likes of Google, TripAdvisor, HappyCow and WhatPub.
  • Structure: a taxonomy and category roadmap, built to scale.
  • Design: the logo, branding and visual components in Figma, turned into a design system and built as a custom WordPress theme.
  • Automation: a way for businesses to submit their own events and listings.
  • Content: all of it, from UI and listings to news and social media.

The outcome

After launching in November 2021, Lev You Lots attracted a strong audience and interest from local businesses:

  • 20 listings created automatically by businesses
  • organic search performance improving month on month
  • a roadmap to scale the product

The site is resting for now, but I may bring it back one day.
