about me

Nice to meet you

I’m James, a freelance adventure, landscape and outdoor photographer based in the north-west. Content is king. You probably know that. It’s why you’re here. Let me tell your brand’s story with great commercial photography and words.

Sustainability is no longer an option.

See what I'm doing
As an outdoors photographer, the environment is my office. And I can’t make my living from the land I love without doing my best to protect it.

I’ve been researching ways to live and work that reduce my impact on the planet, with the aim of being a fully sustainable photographer.

The way I work

Planet first.

I love the outdoors. But to save it, we all need to do better. I leave no trace. And I love working with brands that tread lightly too.

No hidden tricks.

Start with people, be upfront and be honest. Content needs to be useful, clear and have purpose. So do I.

Have fun.

Creativity makes for happy, empowered people. And happy, empowered people do their best work.

A bit about me

Read my CV
I grew up in Oxfordshire, and always had a fondness for writing and the great outdoors. I spent my summers growing up exploring the UK in my parent’s caravan. And seeing the Glencoe Valley for the first time at 12 years old turned out to be one of those annoyingly cliché lifechanging moments – it just took me a few years to realise it.

As a teenager, English was always my favourite subject. I got lost in the stories and wrote my own. I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was older. But I knew it had to involve writing. So I went to University and studied English there, too.

My first ‘real’ camera – a Nikon D3300 – was my graduation present from my parents. And without realising it, they’d managed to set me on a path that perfectly married my love of stories, technology and nature.

Writing first, camera second. Finally, I moved to Manchester two years later. And got to see all the Peak District had to offer…
