Documentary Wedding Photography

Candid, documentary wedding photography is a refreshing departure from the classical shots you’ve seen a thousand times before. It tells your story, reflecting you as the couple you are. I’ll be there to capture the funny moments, the tearjerkers and the laughs.

And you? You get to enjoy your day. No interruptions, no posing, just creating those beautiful, real moments. And at the end of the day, there will be a photo to remember them.

Wedding locations

I’m based in Levenshulme, Manchester. If I’m the right fit for you, I’ll travel up to a 50 miles radius for your bash. Beyond that radius, I may still be able to photograph your wedding, but there may be additional travel charges.

Photographing parts of the day

I can photograph whichever parts you’d like me to: the ceremony, all the preparation, the reception and afterparty. All my work is bespoke -“made-to-order”, so if you only want me around for specific times – I’m happy to oblige. I particularly love photographing the bustle of wedding prep and the ensuing party once you’ve sealed the deal. These parts of the day offer a beautiful insight into the hard work, emotion and family-ties that form the backbone of every great wedding.

My approach to photographing weddings

My approach is generally unposed, natural photographs that tell the complete story of your day. I want my photos to capture the essence of you, your friends and family. After all, it’s your day! By capturing authentic moments between loved ones, I believe that you don’t just get photos, but memories of the day. Of course, all the shots you would normally expect from your wedding photographer will be in there, too. Walking down the aisle, the kiss, confetti and all that good stuff will always form a part of the collection.

Couples portraits and family photos

The beauty of hiring a more relaxed, candid wedding photographer is that I can take as many (or as few) formal portraits, group photos as you’d like. In this area, I cater completely to you. Couples photo sessions can be a great opportunity to step briefly away from the busy day and just enjoy being together. Some of the greatest wedding photographs come from fooling about, making each other laugh and the excitement that comes with being newly married!

Photographing details

The traditional details: brooches, shoes, decorations… make up an important part of the day. They also reflect the sheer amount of effort you put into it – giving you the opportunity to look back on and remember those items most important to you. I’ll take a briefing from you before the day to make sure I photograph the things you cherish most in a style that suits you.

The documentary photography style

The documentary style isn’t for everyone. Some people prefer classic portraiture and group photos – and that’s okay. From that “one-too-many” moment to the dancefloor showdown, documentary-style photography captures the day as it unfolds naturally, savouring all the fun, beauty and emotion that comes with a wedding and its couple.

How many photos will we get?

On a typical full day of shooting, including the wedding preparation, ceremony, portraits and reception, I’ll shoot around 2000-4000 images. From that, I’d normally expect to be able to have around 500 (though this will vary due to a bunch of factors: lighting, venue etc.) “good” photographs, and I guarantee at least 250 per full day in your quote. These will be individually edited and shared with you in their full-resolution, un-watermarked glory.

I will also compile a shortlist of images for your physical album (if ordered!), on which you can omit or include any specific photographs. At this point, you can also place orders for individual prints.

If you desire more wedding photographs – or less, at a reduced cost – I am happy to accommodate your request, and this will be reflected within your bespoke quote.

How long will we have to wait for our photos?

I know the wait can be agonising, and that you want your photos as soon as possible! I’ll work hard to provide your complete collection within 6 weeks of the event.

The culling, editing and compiling process is a long one – but necessary to ensure you have the perfect photos to share and remember your day!

If you really need your images sooner, then I may be able to complete them faster for an extra cost. Please mention this when you get in touch for a quote.
