What kind of client work do you do?

I'm a versatile photographer, and believe in my ability to help you out with whatever you need. Most often, it's:

  • Brand work – Imagery promoting in-action use of equipment, clothing and gear for use in online promotions, on websites and in catalogues.
  • Tourism photography – Imagery of a specific location or attraction in order to promote tourism.
  • Hospitality – Imagery of restaurants, bars, food and drink for use on websites, social media and online promotion.
  • Portraits – On-location, artistic portraiture for use in portfolios, social media and elsewhere.

What makes you different?

A few things.

I have a commercial background. So I understand how the photos need to complement the needs of your business. I can suggest and design ways to use your photos. I can develop the relationship between the photos and the content that's sits with it.

I'm fully sustainable. Outdoor photography is really hard on the planet. So when you work with me, you'll leave no trace.

I love working with small, independent businesses and helping them feel ready to thrive online and on social media.

Websites, social media managers and photography are all extremely expensive. Agencies charge tens of thousands for a simple website. But if you need, I can cover all three.

How does the process work?

I'll work in whatever way suits you and your job best. But usually, client work goes something like:

  • Free consultation: we discuss your job and any early ideas. I get a feel for the work, and you get a feel for me. At this stage, it's good if you have an idea of what you want to capture, your budget and where your photos will be used
  • Quotes: I'll tell you what I think it will cost and we'll agree all the terms of hire.
  • Ideation: if an idea isn't concrete, I can help you develop it. I combine my photography and content design experience to turn your good idea into a great plan.
  • Work: I go to work.
  • Post-processing: I'll sort and cull photos, then edit each one. I'll edit in my 'style', but I'll also make sure it captures the feel you're looking and fits your brand.
  • Sample suite: You'll get a personalised sample suite with a few of the images in various contexts. You get to see how the photos are looking, as well as see how they could be used on websites, social and physical media.
  • Delivery – If you're happy, I'll securely send over your final images.

How much do you charge for weddings?

I give bespoke quotes and consultations for each couple to ensure I can give you exactly what you want from your wedding photographer. You can find out more information about wedding photography, or contact me for your consultation and quote.

How early should I book you for weddings?

There’s no ‘set-in-stone’ time to book your wedding photographer. If possible, try to arrange your booking at least 9 months before your big day. If you’re not yet certain about dates, venue or your requirements, you can contact me to make sure I have availability.

Can I order a print that's not in your store?

Yes, mostly! If you’d like a print of a specific image you’ve seen somewhere else, email me and I’ll see what I can do to help.

What paper do you print on?

The paper used can vary between prints, but will always be professional quality photographic paper that I believe best complements the image. My favourite, and most commonly printed-on, paper is Hahnemühle Photorag 308. It’s a premium, weighty matt-finish paper with a slight texture meaning that details such as grass, tree bark and leaves in photos look excellent.

How long will my print take to arrive?

Your print will arrive within 2 weeks of ordering. If that's not going to happen for any reason, I'll let you know.

Do you sign and number prints, and do you have to?

I usually do. It's the main way of declaring the print's authenticity as an official, limited work. But if you don't want me to sign it, or print it without borders let me know in the 'additional notes' box when you checkout.

Do you sell calendars?

Not yet, but it's something I'm thinking about. I want to make sure I can make them sustainably and affordably.

Can we go and shoot together?

Of course! If you’re around the North-West I’m always up for meeting new people and photographers alike. Contact me on my website or Instagram.

What camera gear do you use?

I use a Fujifilm X-T3 and an X-T2 as my backup.  I also use a Benro MACH3 Carbon Fibre tripod, Benro B3 ballhead and Gobe filters.

My favourite landscape photography lenses are:
  • Fuji XF 10-24mm f/4 OIS
  • Fuji XF 16-55mm f/2.8 WR
  • Fuji XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 OIS
For portraits, commercial work and weddings, I often use:
  • Fuji XF 24mm f/1.4
  • Fuji XF 56mm f/1.2

What type of photography do you do?

I am still building my portfolio of client work and weddings, but I specialise in outdoor, adventure and portrait photography. Here are some of examples of photography work I offer:

  • Brand work – Imagery promoting in-action use of equipment, clothing and gear for use in online promotions, on websites and in catalogues.
  • Tourism photography – Imagery of a specific location or attraction in order to promote tourism.
  • Hospitality – Imagery of restaurants, bars, food and drink for use on websites, social media and online promotion.
  • Portraits – On-location, artistic portraiture for use in portfolios, social media and elsewhere.
  • Weddings and events – I shoot documentary, candid-style wedding photography and other events.

What is Content Design?

Content Design, UX Writing, Content Strategy... people call it a few different things. Which is ironically unhelpful.

Content Design is the practice of bringing design, content formats and words together to make something simple, useful and engaging.

The actual practice can be used in a lot ways, but it is usually seen in website design, mobile apps and social media. For more information, see my page on Content Design.

What can you help my business with?

Quite a lot! Here's a few situations where I can help:

  • You haven't got a website, or you have one that needs a bit of love. I can design and build you a simple, clean website so you can connect with customers and promote your business online.
  • You're not sure if you're website is working hard for your business. Does it do what it needs to do? Is it clear, simple and delightful for people to use?
  • You're trying to make your social media profiles more effective and consistent, and start turning followers into customers and advocates.
  • Your brand talks differently on social media, your website and everywhere else. You want to start developing a brand identity and connecting with people.
  • Your emails aren't being read, or aren't achieving what you want them to do.

What experience do you have?

I've been working as a professional Content Designer, or in 'Digital Content' since 2015. I've worked with Argos, The Co-operative Bank and the BBC.

Is Content Design the same as UX Writing?

The truth is, it doesn't really matter. Some people would argue it means the same thing. Others would say something different.

It's a versatile discipline. So the person is what really matters.

But all UX Writers and Content Designers will have a strong background in building, designing and writing for websites or apps. They will have a strong understanding of language and how it matters to users.

The key thing is, they will always focus on real research and data over pure instinct. They won't 'think about' what your users might need, want or read. They will find out. And work with that in mind.
